Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about tandem paragliding with Fly Stubai.
How far is Fly Stubai from Innsbruck?
The Stubai Valley with Neustift and Fulpmes, the meeting points of Fly Stubai, is about 20 minutes from Innsbruck. You can easily get here by car or public transport.
How does a tandem flight work?
You don’t need any prior experience for your tandem flight. We explain everything step by step. We meet at the agreed time at our Fly-Stubai info stand by the lifts (Elferlifte) and take the lift up together (lift ticket is not included in the flight price). During the ride, you’re welcome to ask any questions. Your pilot will inform you about everything.
Do I need any prior experience?
No prior knowledge is required for tandem flying. A team of experienced pilots and flight instructors ensures a smooth and safe tandem flight that the passenger can enjoy completely relaxed.
How fast does a paraglider fly?
A tandem paraglider flies at about 36 to 40 km/h. Compared to other flying sports, paragliding is rather slow — which makes the experience particularly relaxing.
I’m afraid of heights. Can I still fly?
Yes, absolutely! Most people experience the fear of heights when they’re connected to the ground (e.g. on a balcony or cliff). When flying, this feeling disappears completely because the connection to the ground is missing. Many passengers with fear of heights are surprised how relaxing the flight is.
Are there air pockets?
The term “air pockets” is misleading — there are no actual holes in the air. However, there are different air currents (thermals) that can cause slight movements of the paraglider. These are completely normal and safe. Our pilots choose the best weather conditions for a smooth flight.
What clothing do I need?
Wear sturdy shoes (e.g. sneakers or hiking shoes) and weather-appropriate clothing. It’s about 5-10°C cooler at the launch site than in the valley, so bring a jacket. We provide a helmet and harness.
What is the weight limit for tandem paragliding?
The weight limit for tandem paragliding is between 30 and 110 kg. For passengers outside this range, please contact us directly — we’ll find an individual solution.
Can people with disabilities also paraglide?
Yes, in many cases this is possible! We have experience with passengers with physical limitations and will find a suitable solution together. Please contact us before booking so we can discuss the requirements and optimally prepare the flight. This way we ensure you can enjoy your tandem flight safely and relaxed.
How do you get to the launch site?
We meet at the Elferlifte in Neustift. From there we take the lift together up to the launch site. The lift ticket is not included in the flight price.
Can I wear glasses while paragliding?
Yes, you can wear your glasses or sunglasses without any problems during the tandem flight. We recommend securing them with a strap.
What weather is suitable for a tandem flight?
Sunny weather with light winds is ideal. We don’t fly in rain, strong winds or thunderstorms. Should the weather not cooperate, we’ll find an alternative date together — your safety always comes first.
When are tandem flights possible?
Tandem flights are possible year-round, weather permitting. In summer (May to October) we fly from morning until evening, in winter usually until early afternoon. Book your appointment easily online or by phone.
Can spectators come along?
Of course! Friends and family are very welcome to come watch the start or landing. Please note that spectators need their own lift ticket if they want to come up to the launch site.
How long does a tandem flight last?
A standard tandem flight lasts about 15-20 minutes. We also offer longer thermal flights of 30-60 minutes, depending on weather conditions. The exact duration depends on the chosen flight package.
Are there age restrictions for tandem flying?
Children can fly from age 3 or 15 kg. There is no upper age limit — as long as you are healthy and fit, you can paraglide. Minors require parental consent.
How dangerous is paragliding?
Paragliding with an experienced tandem pilot is one of the safest aerial sports. Our pilots have years of experience and the highest safety standards. The equipment is regularly checked, and we only fly in suitable weather conditions.
Can I take photos myself during the tandem flight?
Yes, you can bring your smartphone or camera and take photos yourself during the flight. We recommend securing the device with a wrist strap. Alternatively, your pilot can take photos and videos with a selfie stick — these are available for purchase after the flight.
Who is allowed to paraglide?
Basically, every healthy person can paraglide — from children aged 3 (or 15 kg) to seniors. You don’t need any prior experience or a special fitness level. The important thing is that you can run a few steps at the start and don’t have any serious health problems (e.g. heart problems, acute injuries, pregnancy). If in doubt, just ask us — we’re happy to advise!
How safe is tandem flying?
Tandem flying is very safe when done with an experienced pilot. Our pilots have years of training and experience. All equipment is regularly inspected and we always fly within safe weather conditions. Safety is our top priority.
How can I pay for the tandem flight?
You can pay in cash directly to the pilot or in advance by bank transfer. Card payment is currently not possible at the launch site. We’ll send you all the necessary information when booking.
Are there custom dates available on request?
All date requests are non-binding. If you only have time on a specific day or are spending your holiday in Tyrol and want to plan, send us a request and we’ll suggest suitable flight dates for you!
